Many who are in search of a natural sleep aid, first reach for melatonin. As many people know, melatonin is actually a hormone produced by the pineal glad within the body and only is effective for some.

It's important to know that melatonin is a sleep regulator, not a sleep initiator. It has a time and place (e.g. helping the body adjust to new time zones during travel), but it may not be on your night stand.

Most of the sleep aids containing melatonin have significantly more than the recommended dosage. This is often results in side effects from melatonin supplementation including next-day drowsiness, some compare to a Benadryl hangover.
